Michael E. Baroody, a senior lobbyist for the National Association of Manufacturers, was nominated by George Bush to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission. The NAM is a major trade organization for the largest companies in the USA, and frequently has cases pending before the Commission. It was disclosed today that Mr Baroody will receive $150,000 from the Association in severance and unused leave.

In a related story, the Bush administration today appointed The Fox to guard the National Henhouse. The recess appointment takes effect immediately. In a news conference, Bush spokesman Graft N. Bribery called Mr Fox "a highly regarded member of the predatory quadruped family, and one who, due to his long-standing association with The Chickens, is well-qualified to look out for their well-being."
Mr Fox said, in a prepared statement, "I was nobody's roommate, and I don't know a thing about Arabian horses, but I do know this: those tasty Chickens need protection, and I'm just the guy to guarantee their safety. My first order of business will be to install a full suite of surveillance devices in the barnyard. We'll also be opening and reading The Chickens' mail. And if we have to, we'll ship every last one of them to some god-forsaken wasteland in the Middle East. Better to fight the Chicken terrorists over there, so we don't have to fight them here."
